Our Purpose:
The Community Outreach & Awareness Club focuses on volunteer work that mainly supports S/A survivors and the children of our community. We host yearly events such as Halloween parties at local shelters, blanket-making workshops, ballot counting, creek clean-ups, and holiday volunteering opportunities such as Christmas in the Park and Breakfast with Santa.

.
Additionally, COA provides optional educational resources to the student body on what consent, sexual assault, sexual harassment, etc is (all information is researched from professional, dependable sources) upon request. Later in the year, we hope to provide after-school classes to teach students how to protect themselves via self-defense instruction.

Our Missions

Halloween Party:
COA hosts a yearly Halloween party at a local women’s and children’s shelter. This is a great opportunity for anyone who likes interacting with kids, loves Halloween, or needs to fulfill their service hours. Parties typically last between two and three hours and we need around eleven volunteers each year!

.
Volunteers’ Tasks Include:
- Interacting and Supervising children
- Helping out with arts-n-crafts
- Passing Out Food & Drinks

Johanne’s Fabrics & Donations:
Johanne’s fabrics have been nice enough to offer donations of blanket-making materials to COA. Throughout the year, club advisors host simple classes on blanket and quilt-making either through hand knitting or knots. After the creation of these blankets is complete we pass them out to the homeless population in local towns. We try to stick with an innovative blanket-style, leaving one end of the blanket open to allow for carrying stuff inside when traveling.
Side Notes:
Additionally, COA has fidget-quilt-making classes that we then donate to local hospitals to help Alzhemiers/dementia patients with agitation.

Nextdoor & Needs:
COA is currently working to create a donation system for the homeless population in Campbell and San Jose. We work to ask people their specific needs or wants and then either campaign on Nextdoor or fundraise for donations of these specific items. This is connected to our blanket donations but goes more in-depth.

Creek Clean-up:
Del Mar High School has adopted a creek near Blackford elementary, yearly COA plans trips to clean up the area. This is a great opportunity for nature lovers and those who want to save our local wildlife.

Breakfast With Santa & Christmas In The Park:
COA partners with Camden Community Center & Christmas In The Park during the holidays for various opportunities. Members may have the opportunity to help set up houses, and trees, or volunteer at direct events for Christmas in downtown San Jose.

Walden West:
COA organizes and offers the opportunity to volunteer as a cabin leader at Walden West Science Camp during the school year. Students eligible take a week off of school towards the end of March to head to the camp together as a club. This is a great event for anyone who loves nature, hiking, or needs volunteer hours as it offers 100+ hours of community service “credit”.

more events on the way!

Fundraising

See’s Candies:
Towards the beginning of the year, COA hosts a See’s Candies fundraiser with their Halloween Collection. Prices stay at retail price and the club receives between twenty to forty percent of sales.

Bake Sales:
Throughout the year we will host around two to three bake sales in downtown Campbell during the farmers market on Sundays. This is great for anyone who loves to bake and wants some extra experience in customer service.
